Traditionelles Cottage Westport

Description du logement

Our cottage, on the west coast on the green island of Ireland, has been used by our family for many years. However, we hope it offers the opportunity for guests to use for their holidays as well. We have created this website to show friends and guests how lovely and romantic it is on the west coast of Ireland. It was no accident that led us to take our first trip twelve years ago in this wonderful, changeable region of Ireland. The spectacular scenery stretches from high rugged mountains and steep cliffs, with breathtaking sea views, over sandy beaches, to the untouched stretches of moor land. The small quaint harbour town of Westport, with its restaurants and typical public houses, will charm you from your first visit. It is populated with friendly Irish folk who have a taste for a Mediterranean way of life. Do you want to escape from the pressures of everyday-life into quiet untouched landscape? Then a holiday on the west coast of Ireland is exactly what you need. And with a garden that covers more than an acre of land there is plenty of space for a family to have fun. We discovered this paradise a long time ago and since then it has become home from home. The cottage is a detached property situated in a large (3000m²) garden which is surrounded by large trees and bushes. It is one kilometre from the sea and offers inspiring views of Coagh Patrick, the holy mountain of the Irish. This peaceful location will most definitely appeal. The four bedroom (120m²) cottage is ideal for up to four adults and two children. The cottage offers: · two bedrooms with double beds. · two children’s rooms with single beds. · living room with open fire and patio doors onto the garden. · large homely kitchen with cooker, fridge, coffee machine and toaster. · bathroom with shower and toilet. · guest WC. · utility room with washing machine. · terrace with garden furniture hidden from the road. · colour TV with satellite dish (Capable of receiving European television programmes). · telephone. · central heating. From the cottage it is only one kilometre to the sea. Westport and Newport, which both offer opportunities to explore and shop, are six kilometres away. The cottage contains Linen and hand towels, and there are many books and games to play. We want you to enjoy the cottage and its location to the full so that when you go home you take with you great memories and want to come back. The cottage is the starting point for many daytrips: The harbour town of Westport, six kilometres away, is located in Clew Bay which, with 365 islands, is an inviting place to visit. There is a mixture of traditional shops and elegant boutiques, and there are many cafés, restaurants and traditional music pubs where you can take a break. Use the many Westport-walks to explore this charming town and its outlying areas. Should the weather decide not to play along there is a swimming pool which offers relaxation or your can fill the afternoon with the chink-chink of tea cups. Twenty kilometres away is Castlebar, the capital of County Mayo, famous for its Blues Festival in July and also its scenic walks. Drive along the 25km coastal road following the romantic wild coast with its cliffs and beaches to Louisburgh. Once there take a trip to Claire Island from the jetty and explore this most striking of Atlantic islands. Achill Island, the biggest Irish island, must not be missing from your itinerary. A 28km drive via the coastal towns of Newport and Mulranny brings you to a Scenic Drive which, following the coastline of the sea, in some parts at breathtaking heights, brings you after 15km to Achill. The many vista points will make you stop to appreciate the grandiose forces of the sea whose waves crash against the cliffs. Achill is surrounded by unforgettable countryside, untouched moor land, wonderful beaches and some of the highest cliffs in Europe. The poet Heinrich Böll was so inspired by Achill that he stayed a year and his Diary describing his stay survives here still. Discover the history of the occupation of Ireland by the Vikings and the subsequent conversion to Christianity on a Historical Drive which begins and ends in Westport. Climb the Coagh Patrick, the holy mountain of the Irish. A three hours ascent rewards you with a breathtaking view over the Clew Bay. The story has it that Saint Patrick fasted on the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights in the year 441. The whole year long pilgrims of all age groups come here to tackle the steep climbs to the top. A daytrip (80km) takes you to the beautiful University town and post of Galway. These are only a few of the many possibilities to explore and get away for the day. Our cottage is ideal for guests who enjoy outdoor activities: · Sailing club (2km). · Riding school (2km): Riding tours, riding lessons for children. · Rambling: coastal walks, mountain hikes (7km), diverse sign-posted walks. · Long distance hikes on the Bangor Trail or the Western Trail. · Swimming and paddling on wonderful isolated “blue flag” beaches. · Cyclists can find everything here that they could wish for. · Clew Bay Golf Club (2km): A challenging nine whole links course. · The Westport Golf Club (4km): A picturesque 18 hole course in Clew Bay. The Westport Golf Club has twice hosted the Irish amateur championships. The 15th hole is especially challenging, requiring a shot over 200yards of water. · Fishing: the Lakes and rivers here are famous for their trout, salmon and pike. · Sea anglers can fish for pollack, cod, haddock, etc., from the harbour and the more adventurous can fish for shark. Ireland is easily reachable by plane. Alternatively you can travel with your own car by ferry.
